He was President of the Institute of Landscape Architects (now the Landscape Institute) from 1969 to 1971, and he was landscape architect for Robinson College, Cambridge.〔(Robinson College page )〕 In the mid-1970s, when the Garden History Society was concerned to protect historic landscapes, he suggested the setting-up of a Historic Landscapes Council analogous to the Historic Buildings Council; but the idea was not implemented.〔Laurence J.
